Ingrid B. Lacy Student Needs Help Getting to Washington D.C.

Pacifica student is raising funds to help pay his way on a class trip to the nation's capital.

Michael Kwong, 13, is the 8th grade class president at Ingrid B Lacy Middle School in Pacifica, and he's asking for the community's help to "get me to DC," he said.

"Your donations will help my family pay the fee required for me to go on this trip," he writes on the Piggybackr page he started this month to raise the $2,500 needed to go on the class trip.

Ingrid B. Lacy Middle School works with the company WorldStrides (worldstridesdiscovernow.org) in order to give the 8th graders a chance to visit the nation's capitol. The trip will take place during the second week of the school’s 2014 summer break.

But Kwong needs help with coming up with the funds to go.

"I do very well in school and hope to achieve a lot when I get older. I am very interested in American history and I love to travel," he said.

On the fundraising page he explains that the trip will give him an "experience that will last a lifetime."

"This trip will give me an opportunity to visit my nation’s capitol and learn all about my country’s rich history. The 8th grade curriculum consists of American History, and this trip will be an excellent chance for me to cement everything that will be taught to me during the school year. Also, I will be given time to bond with my fellow classmates while we explore the nation’s capitol. This trip to Washington D.C will allow me to discover many landmarks I have only read about or seen in movies, such as the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument."

So far he's raised $850 of the $2,500 needed.
