Earth Day of Action & EcoFest - 10th Anniversary

The 10th annual Earth Day of

Action clean up, education and EcoFest festivities are coming to Pacifica on

Saturday April 26 from 9am-3pm.  

The

annual citywide day of action is dedicated to building community, cleaning up

litter and restoring the native landscape of the San Mateo County coast at

organized sites from Montara to Mussel Rock from 9am-11am. 

Then, after the

clean up from 11:30am-3pm, EcoFest will feature music, entertainment,

environmental education, volunteer Earth Hero appreciation, the first “Unsung

Earth Hero” Award unveiled during the 10th anniversary of the event,

and presentations by local earth heroes including Pacifica’s Poet Laureate

Dorsetta Hale and Beth Terry, author of “Plastic Free,” sharing how to kick

the “plastic habit.”  Wildlife Biologist and Snowy Plover Expert

Carleton Eyster of PointBlue.org will deliver the keynote

address on protecting the Plover, a threatened species under the federal

Endangered Species Act, a Bird Species of Special Concern in California, and

the primary reasons for the declining Plover population.

Live music on stage from Hanna Carter, Groovy Judy and Wall of Blues.

Entertainment by Sardine Family Circus and Terra Nova High School Hula Dancers

will also be part of the festivities that includes more than 40

booths, refreshments and hands-on

activities for the family including Snowy Plover nest building station and photo

booth, hula lessons, a petting zoo, face painting, ocean-themed bean bag toss,

a whale walk and shark stroll, “Stow It, Don’t Throw It,” voter registration,

Segway demonstrations and more!  It’s all
