Discovery Day - Hike/Drive to Sweeney Ridge

Sponsored by the Pacifica Historical Society

Gaspar de Portola and his expedition were the first Europeans to see San Francisco Bay.  They saw it not from a ship but from Sweeney Ridge in Pacifica.

Come to the Pacifica Community Center to learn some history. Then hike from the top of Fassler Avenue up to the "Discovery Site", about 2 miles uphill with (hopefully) beautiful views of the coast (assuming it is not foggy).

If you are unable to hike, you may join a caravan of cars to be guided by a ranger through the gate and up to the top of Sweeney Ridge from the San Bruno side.
