Your Knockoff iPhone Charger Could Electrocute You

One woman died and a man has been in a coma for 10 days after using third-party chargers with their iPhones.

While nothing has been proven, two shocking cases in Asia provide evidence that third-party iPhone chargers can be deadly.

According to the Huffington Post, a Beijing man has been in a coma since July 8 after he was electrocuted using his iPhone with a third-party charger.

Earlier this month, a Chinese woman was killed when she answered her iPhone, which was plugged into a knockoff charger.

Thus far, no chargers have been recalled, nor has there been a definitive connection proven between the chargers and the deaths.

Knockoff chargers can be tempting to iPhone users because Apple charges in the realm of $40 for the cord, while other companies provide the device for under $5. However, with the recent deaths, it might be smart to stick to the real deal.

If you want to get rid of your knockoff charger and buy an Apple cord, Apple products can be purchased at the following Peninsula locations:

Pacifica:
Verizon Wireless, 80 W. Manor Drive, Pacifica

San Bruno:
Best Buy, 1250 El Camino Real
Sprint Store, 1252 El Camino Real
AT&T, 1206 El Camino Real
T-Mobile USA, 1212 El Camino Real
Target, 1150 El Camino Real
