Woodside: Mountain Lion Spotted Near Road Monday Night

The big cat was seen near the 400 block of Old La Honda Road around 9:15 p.m.

A mountain lion was spotted walking along a Woodside road Monday night, San Mateo County emergency officials said.

The big cat was seen near the 400 block of Old La Honda Road around 9:15 p.m.

Residents are advised to not approach a mountain lion, especially one that is feeding or with offspring.

Safety officials also advise avoiding hiking or jogging at dawn, dusk and night when mountain lions are most active. Small children should stay away from the cats.

If residents encounter a mountain lion, safety officials said not to run, but to face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving arms and throwing rocks or other objects.
