Pacifica Sees Quarter-Inch Hail Thursday Night

A thunderstorm originating in El Granada brought sever weather to northern San Mateo County.

A thunderstorm originating in El Granada Thursday night brought quarter-inch hail to Pacifica.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for San Mateo County that lasted until about 8:45p.m. Cities mainly affected were Pacifica, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae, Daly City and Burlingame.

Tina Bristol, a Linda Mar resident, sent Pacifica Patch some photos of the hail in her area.

"It was enough hail to put a thin coat on Linda Mar," she wrote in an email. "I confess I ate some of it because, well it looked delicious and didn’t we all eat it when we were children?"

The thunderstorms of one to two hours for flights at San Francisco International Airport and high wind advisories were issued for Bay Area bridges.
