Halloween Weekend: Where Kids Can Go in Costume

Here's a look at several Halloween events taking place today through Oct. 31 on the Coast.

It's time to get into the Halloween spirit!

The Coast is gearing up for a week of spooky activities, leading up to Wednesday night trick-or-treating.

Everyday through Oct. 31:

Harbor Village Pumpkin Patch

When: Open everyday through Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: Harbor Village, 270 Capistrano Rd., Princeton-by-the-Sea, Half Moon Bay

What: Pumpkins and jumpy houses. Costume, pie-eating and pumpkin carving contests. Trick or treating. Free drawings and prizes, with grand prize drawing, taking place on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 3:30 p.m.

Cost: Free with purchase of a pumpkin

 

Friday:

Musical Storytime — Halloween Edition

When: Friday, Oct. 26, 4 p.m.

Where: Pacifica Sanchez Library, 1111 Terra Nova Blvd, Pacifica

What: Bring the entire family and join our spooky, musical good time. Adults and kids, wear your costumes and get your photo taken, sing and dance to scary songs like “Monster Mash” and “The Addam’s Family.” Listen to spooky tales read by our creepy group of ghouls, and take home some yummy Halloween candy bags.

Cost: Free

 

Saturday:

10th Annual Haunted Hostel Halloween

When: Saturday, Oct. 27, 2 to 5 p.m.

Where: Point Montara Lighthouse Hostel, 16th Street & Highway 1, Montara

What: This year's "Haunted Hostel Halloween X" is going to be more spooktacular than ever before with giant puppets, games and activities, a spread of holiday snacks, and live music by Les Monstres. Halloween-themed crafts for kids include a paper pumpkin, an origami bat and popsicle-stick mummies. Games include a sack race and beanbag toss. There’s face painting and fun-sized candy as well. This year also marks the grand opening of the “Enchanted Bosk,” a haunted forest featuring the "Sea Serpent’s Grotto" and the "Dragon’s Lair," an expansion of the "Monster’s Lair" that has outgrown it’s traditional home in the Fog Signal Building.

Cost: $8/adults and $4/kids 12 and under

 

Halloween at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company

When: Saturday, Oct. 27 at 5 to 9 p.m.; costume contest at 8 p.m.

Where: Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, 390 Capistrano Rd., Princeton-by-the-Sea, Half Moon Bay

What: Live music and a costume contest. Fusion, a Bay Area dance, hip-hop and R&B band that covers hits from the '70s through today, will provide the high-energy soundtrack to the annual Halloween party at the HMB Brewing Company. Guests of all ages are welcome to enter the annual costume contest, which awards prizes for a variety of categories, including Most Original Costume, Best Group Costume and the Costume Most Likely to be Imitated Next Year.

Cost: Free

Teen Steampunk Halloween Party

When: Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, 6:30 to 10 p.m.

Where: Pacifica Sharp Park Library, 104 Hilton Way, Pacifica

What: Teens — Enter the Haunted Airship: Through the Porthole, if you dare. Actually, it’s the Sharp Park Library Community Room, decked out in complete Steampunk gear. Join us for a Steampunk Teen Halloween Party and movie screening.  This event is run by teens, for teens. Come dressed up for a costume contest with prizes (optional), watch Tim Burton’s movie “9,” and enjoy pizza, cake, music, and a ton of Victorian, industrial-age fun. Ages 14-18 only please.

Cost: Free

 

Saturday and Sunday:

9th Annual Halloween Spooktacular

When: Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Where: Pacifica Community Center, 540 Crespi Drive, Pacifica

What: The Pacifica Community Center is transformed into a Haunted House and Carnival. Fun for the entire family. Community groups and City of Pacifica employees host rooms. For the younger crowd, the carnival provides fun games and prizes. Carnival games run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and are 25 cents per ticket (games vary from 1 to 4 tickets).
