Did You Feel It? Small Earthquake Shakes Pacifica

A small earthquake measuring 2.7 magnitude on the Richter scale shook the coastal area near Pacifica Wednesday evening, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The tremblor shook shortly after 7 p.m. and originated about 1.2 miles southeast of Pacifica.

"To put it another way, it was just north of the Park Pacifica neighborhood, northeast of the Millwood (aka Picardo) Ranch," said Pacifica resident David Cole, who observed that the USGS map doesn't enlarge well enough to figure out where they actually meant, but if you cut-and-paste the longitude/latitude numbers and put them into Google Maps, you get a pointer in the Sweeney Ridge preserve of the Golden Gate Recreational Area.

There were no immediate reports of damage.

Still, Pacifica resident Wichita Sims says "the house felt like it shifted to the right along with its foundation. Neighbor confirmed same feeling."
