Please Read One More Story!

Read Aloud Day at Ortega on Friday, Feb. 10 was a wonderful opportunity to share our love of reading. Thank you to the special people who made this day possible.

Please, read us one more story! How could I resist such an earnest plea? So, I reached into my book bag and pulled out my old favorite, The Hockey Sweater - a Canadian classic - and started to share the story of Roch, Maurice Richard and Les Montreal Canadiens.

Read Aloud Day at Ortega Elementary is one of my favorite days of the year. I get a chance to share my love of reading and a little piece of my Canadian heritage with a class of eager students. Their giggles at my jokes and smiles of appreciation light up my day. And, perhaps best of all, I get to invite wonderful community volunteers to join me.

On Friday, Feb. 10, 32 Pacificans took time out of their busy days to share their favorite stories with students. Thank you to the many readers that made the day so special. Reading aloud to children and modeling a love of literature has so many postive benefits - for both the children and the readers! It is a privilege for Pacifica School Volunteers to bring the community and Ortega
together to celebrate reading.

In addition to the volunteer readers we want to thank a number of folks who help make this day possible: Ortega teachers, staff & PTO for the warm hospitality, Atkinson, Woodlawn, Fleishhacker, JH Robbins, Wells Fargo, Target and Sam Mazza Foundations for the financial support and community members for their donations of time and resources.

Happy reading and Go Habs!
