Sun Valley Market Opens In Vallemar, Owner Seeking Community Input

City council members and the Chamber fo Commerce celebrated its opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday.

The grand opening of Sun Valley Market's new branch in Vallemar on Reina Del Mar was yesterday. Along with free barbecue, pupusas (a savory El Salvadorian pancake) and ice cream sandwiches, there was a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Mary Ann Nihart, Councilman Len Stone and Courtney Conlon of the Chamber of Commerce.

The Nesquik bunny was also in attendance.

This is the third Sun Valley grocery store to open in Pacifica, with Sun Valley Fine Food at 1015 Terra Nova Boulevard and another Sun Valley Market in the Abobe Plaza Shopping Center.

Sam Qaru, owner of the stores, said the Vallemar branch's grand opening has been 9 months coming (because of delays with the Alcoholic Beverage Control) but he's pleased with the results.

"I'm very appreciative of people who came out to give us a shot," he said. "We tried to do everything the right way and people are appreciative. I've never seen so many positive comments."

Currently, Sun Valley Market Vallemar is selling a wide variety of wines, liquor, beverages, frozen, dry and canned goods and some produce.

But, Qaru said, he wants to the community to direct the type of products and services the market will offer going forward.

"We intentionally opened the store generically," he said. "What we need is guidance within the first six months from the community so we can adjust to people's needs."
