Sharp Park Golf Course, Restaurant, and a Ghost?

Rumor has it, there's a resident ghost at the historic Sharp Park Restaurant & Lounge.

Golfers were out warming up for their swings on the historic Sharp Park Golf Course Monday, enjoying the sunny weather while it lasted.

Meanwhile, inside the course's Sharp Park Restaurant & Lounge, Nancy Markey, who has been the official greeter in the clubhouse for 14 years, answers any and all questions one might have about the course, the clubhouse, or the restaurant.

As the staff prepared for the dinner crowd, they cheerfully answered my questions about the history of this wonderful place. The bartender, Steve Rhodes, pointed out a historic map of the course, and also three paintings from the restaurant and club house's original building, depicting the explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, who traveled through this area back in the 1500s.

There are also rumors of a resident ghost.

"The spirit is a small red-haired lady," said our hostess, Laura. "I think she was the former owner. She doesn't give me any trouble — maybe because I always do a good job!"

The last time I was here for dinner was a family event, and I had the prime rib, which was excellent. The service was also very friendly.

Kevin Ramsay, the owner of the restaurant, as well as the head chef, Leo, have been here for 25 years. But the resident spirit has been here longer than that.
