Rock ‘n Fit Shuts Down; Ideal Protein Weight Loss Clinic Opens

CLOSED: Rock ‘n Fit, 215 Rockaway Beach Ave., Pacifica

As of April 18, Pacifica’s health and fitness club Rock ‘n Fit officially closed their doors for good.

“I am so sorry we had to end!” wrote owner Carolyn Stepp on the business’s Facebook page.

“Carolyn fought the good fight and it was time to let it go,” wrote client Andrea Shepard. “... the doors are shut for good, but we carry all of that positive energy within us. We've worked hard, had fun, sweat, gossiped, encouraged each other, and lifted each up in so many ways."

OPEN: The Beach Monkey Café, 986 Linda Mar Blvd., Adobe Plaza, Pacifica

The Beach Monkey Café opened in February but celebrated their grand opening Thursday, April 18, with a Pacifica Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting event. The hip, modern coffee bar and restaurant offers modern California food and fair trade, organic coffee in a well-designed, casual environment.

The owners are Linda Mar residents, Michael Pakes and Therese Sollars. Pakes says he recognized a demand for small-batch coffee, quality ingredients, and simple, creatively spiced dishes in an inviting environment.

“Come visit me at Beach Monkey Café for pour over coffees and espresso drinks,” writes barista Genevieve Harder on Pacifica Patch’s Facebook page.

RELOCATION: The Truth – A Tattoo Arts Studio, 5556 Coast Hwy, Pacifica

On April 5, The Truth, an upscale custom tattoo and piercing studio, celebrated the opening of their new digs. They moved from 5450 Coast Hwy to 5556 Coast Hwy just left of Fresh and Easy. Founded by Peter Bogdanov, he and his artists offer clients one-on-one treatments complete with consultations. In addition to the full-time staff, the studio regularly has guest artists from around the country. In addition, it serves as an art gallery and is available to rent as an event venue.

RELOCATION: Resurrected Boutique, 450 Dondee Way Suite #11, Pacifica

Resurrected Boutique celebrated their new location with a ribbon cutting on Friday, April 19. The store, known for its vintage styling mixed with a modern twist, carries jewelry and accessories, gift items, furniture, and accessories for your home.

OPENED: Ideal Protein Weight Loss Clinic, 1009 Terra Nova Blvd., Pacifica

A new weight-loss clinic in Pacifica celebrated its grand opening with an open house event on April 13 at Visions Seaside Spa in Linda Mar. Dr. Karri Cardinal, the new clinic's owner, is a San Francisco-based chiropractor who wants to introduce the Ideal Protein weight-loss system after successfully using it herself a year ago, losing more than 10 pounds. She offers supervised weight loss with Ideal Protein, an easy 4-phase medically designed protocol that helps stabilize the pancreas and blood sugar levels while burning fat and maintaining muscle and other lean tissue. NEW OWNERSHIP: OK Liquors, 1021 Terra Nova Blvd., Pacifica

A new owner took over OK Liquors in the Park Mall. Kal Patel, 39, who lives in South San Francisco, recently bought the business. Patel is an accounting manager for a hotel who was laid off with the downturn of the economy in 2008. Since taking over OK Liquors, he has cleaned the store and got rid of a lot of clutter. He reorganized the merchandise and will keep the same merchandise of wine, beer and soda, but will also stock the store with wines that are otherwise hard to find in Pacifica.
