Lovey’s Tea Shoppe is a Happening Place; Boston Bill’s Closes its Doors for Good

Our column brings you the latest in small business news in Pacifica.

OPENED: Lovey’s Tea Shoppe, 4430 Highway 1, Pacifica

It’s not new news that Lovey’s Tea Shoppe has opened in Pacifica under the ownership of Pacifica resident and co-owner of the popular San Francisco Lovejoy's Tea Room in Noe Valley, Muna Nash. But it’s quite remarkable that ever since Nash opened her doors at the end of September, the place has been packed like never before, booked with reservations and cars jockeying for parking spaces out front. Seems every bride-to-be or birthday girl in Paciifca is booking her shower or party here, and rightfully so. Lovey’s is lovely! Lovejoy's is known for its charming décor, tea sandwiches, scones served with clotted cream and preserves and a wide selection of teas, and Lovey's Tea Shoppe in Pacifica features a similar menu, including a traditional tea service but in a more relaxed roadside setting. Other items such as shepherd's pie, sausage rolls, soup, salads, and quiche are also on the menu. The crumpets and homemade lemon curd are to die for. Mismatched chinas, quirky décor and Old World charm with a tea menu for every palette, this is the place in Pacifica to go if want to be treated like royalty. The service is very nice and efficient. Call 650-359-1245 to make a reservation or book a private party.

OPENED: Dollar Store, 1361 Linda Mar Shopping Center, Pacifica

Every town needs a dollar or 99-cent store. When you're trying to save money, the dollar store can seem like a magical place. Abracadabra, everything's a buck or less! Thanks to Martcia Sampson, owner of the newly opened Dollar Store, Pacifica now has a Dollar Store in the Linda Mar area. Sampson is pleased at how well the Pacifica community has embraced her store. The bargains are so enticing that every time she turns around, she finds merchandise has flown off the shelf. If she doesn't have it, ask her and she will try and stock it. Party supplies, greeting cards, cleaning supplies, seasonal decorations and cooking and dining accessories are the biggest deals to be had at the Dollar Store.

OPENED: Sand & Sparrow, 1009 Terra Nova Blvd., Pacifica

Owner Meghan Gearing has opened a wonderful little boutique that offers beautiful jewelry and unique women's clothing. Her store is snuggled in the front lobby of Visions Seaside Spa in Park Pacifica. So if you're waiting for your appointment what better way to melt away time by taking a browse inside and finding something unique to purchase.

CLOSED: Boston Bill’s, 4408 Highway 1, Pacifica

With a “For Lease” sign out front and the lights off inside, it’s safe to say that Pacifica’s beloved Boston Bill’s is gone for good. The website is down and even the Yelp page for Boston Bill’s says its closed. What a short run. Boston Bill’s was a nice addition to Pacifica. This Pacifica restaurant, serving up fast East Coast fare, had people lining up for more when it first opened a year ago. Owner Bill McGowan, a Pacifica resident for than 20 years, really served up the real thing when it came to Philly cheesesteaks. And he was only open for but a year. Best of luck to you, McGowan. You will be missed.

I can start with the comments on the Theravance drug, fluticasone fluroate - the active moiety inRead More this compound is the same, fluticasone (proprionate) that has been marketed by GSK for the same indication for approximately 25 years. Indeed, that patent is so old, and the drug has such a proven track record for safety and efficacy, that the patent has expired and there are generic versions available. There is also in implicit assumption by the author that the only reason that the FDA will approve medications in a short time span is because they are for 'life-or-limb' or unmet serious medical need. This is just not the case - regulators in many countries, including the FDA in the USA, may give accelerated approval to a product, where the safety and tolerability of a product is equivalent to a similar active agent which has already been approved. I suspect this is the case for fluticasone fluroate - but I am not privy to the details of the regulatory filing. I note that none of the companies mentioned here, nor the FDA, has provided input to this article. The journalism in this article smacks of someone trying to make a name for themselves quickly by scaring uneducated and/or anxious people. The science is just plain flawed.

I think many of us can relate! 10 kids, huh? I was the oldest of 9, so sort of understand. MyRead More family grew up in Pacifica, & we rode over the slide every weekend when we went to the HMB airport to tend to my father's airplanes. I drove on it once, during driver's ed in high school, scary! I have an old home movie clip from 1966, going over the slide. Very overexposed, but you can still see parts of the slide in it. More recently, took 2 videos of our drive over the slide, North & south views. Going North: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kb8NKnu9Gvw Going South: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rlN_g2LeE8
