Joe's of Westlake Restaurant to Close in January

Last chance for Pacificans to eat at this Daly City establishment is this month and next.

It's been a fixture in the restaurant scene for decades in North County San Mateo.

But after almost 60 years of serving up classic Italian-American cuisine in a casual and retro-style setting, Joe's of Westlake in Daly City at 11 Glenwood Drive is closing. Their last day of business will be Jan. 26.

Original Joe's in North Beach bought the restaurant with plans to remodel the space and reopen a year later. Original Joe’s is known for its classic Italian-American cooking with healthy portions and has been open since 1937.

Started in 1956 by Bruno Scatena, Joe's of Westlake remained a family owned and operated business for years and is also famous for big portions, legendary cocktails, live music, comfy booths, and an old-school lounge. Calarmari steaks, meatballs, homemade marinara sauce, breaded pork chops, and ravioli entrees all reasonably priced have made this Daly City establishment a popular place for locals to meet up with family and friends.

The hostess who answered the phone Tuesday night told Patch that she's not sure what the new owners have in mind and if the menu will stay the same or change.

A Facebook page, Save Joe's Of Westlake, has been set up for long-time patrons of Joe's of Westlake to let the new owners know how customers feel about this beloved restaurant closing.

Rob Keil comments on the page: "I have had contact with the new owners in the last couple days about the building specifically, and the members of this group can rest assured that the Duggan family respects the history of Joe's, and intends to carefully remodel in accordance with the architectural style and time period in which it was built. I'm going to make this my last post here and focus on being of help to the Duggans in this regard."

What will you miss the most at Joe's of Westlake? What memories do you have of this old-time restaurant?
