East Coast specialties are coming to Half Moon Bay.
Jersey Joe’s, the “West Coast’s connection to Philly cheesesteaks and Hoagies” located in San Carlos, is slated to open early 2013 in Stone Pine Center in Half Moon Bay.
Owner and El Granada resident Don Godshall thought opening his East Coast style sandwich shop on the Coast was a great way to get back to his roots and offer the community a place to go for great hamburgers and sandwiches and to host local sports teams.
“We’re going to have booths, counter-top seating and lots of sports memorabilia and flat screens on the walls here,” said Godshall, who’s owned Jersey Joe’s in San Carlos since 2003 and says from the start he knew what his mission was: to use high quality ingredients, do it right, have fun feeding the East Coast transplants, and introducing new customers to a great sandwich.
He’s talking about Hoagies, which originated in Southern New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania over 50 years ago, where Godshall is originally from.
The Hoagie is a sandwich made on an Italian roll. The original version is made with Italian meats and cheeses, lettuce, tomato, onion, spices, oil and vinegar. Jersey Joe’s will offer many variations on the Hoagie as well as Philly cheesesteaks and hamburgers, which will be made from 1/3 pound of handcrafted, never frozen, freshly ground beef. Milkshakes, wine, and microbrew beers on tap will also be served.
While the menu is complete and will be the same for the most part as the San Carlos menu, the space is still being renovated, but it’s coming along and shows promise as a sparkling new establishment that will be run by an experienced restauranteur and Philly cheesesteak connoisseur.
“We were excited to finally get our sign up,” said Godshall. “I’m hoping this will soon become the local neighborhood cheesesteak and burger place. From the positive reception and feedback we’ve received so far from people, I think it will.”
