Craft Beer Bars — It’s Good for What Ales You

Beer is on the menu at a new brewpub in Pescadero and at San Benito Ale House in Half Moon Bay.

Two local businesses are tapping into the microbrew market.

For starters, San Benito House, now called San Benito Ale House, has expanded their beer selection and is featuring an array of assorted and rotating craft beers from Belgium to the California Coast.

The alehouse is also specializing in unique sausages, which are locally made and served in San Benito's homemade rolls with Belgium fries to pair with their craft beers.

“It's really a hip new concept for our establishment, and we are excited about it,” said owner Cristina Goedde. “We are enthusiastic to bring a craft beer bar to the Coast as we improve the San Benito House.” 

Goedde and her brothers have been working hard to give the San Benito House a fresh look and make it a great place for locals to meet up.

“Our new concept has been very well received by the community, and it's been a pleasure to be involved in this new business model,” she added.

The San Benito Ale House will continue their events, hotel, deli and restaurant business as well as a new cigar smoke house and lounge in the back, featuring cigars and cigarettes.

Next, on the south end of the Coast, Highway 1 Brewing Company is slated to open mid-January 2013 at 5720 Cabrillo Highway in Pescadero.

The new brewpub will serve lunch and dinner as well as microbrew, along with hosting special events throughout the year.

Montara residents Jeff and Melissa Page are the owners and have years of catering, entertaining and home-brewing experience between them. They are working on remodeling the space and are excited about opening the business.

“We have a desire to produce great food and beer, focusing on local and unique ingredients, in a relaxed atmosphere on the Coast,” said Melissa.

For those who would like to try their brew, jewelry artist Stephanie Hamilton will be pouring the Page’s holiday” Amber Dexterous" brew, with deep roasty flavors, yet light on its feet, at her open studio Nov. 9-11 in Pacifica. Details on the open studio event can be found here.

Articles like this one are good to see. Maybe you could do a piece on the upcoming opening of Jersey Joe's here on the coast. Jersey Joe's, owned and operated by Don Godshall, is the best cheesesteak place on the peninsula (San Carlos). We are very fortunate to have Don as a longtime coastside resident, who apparently (and to our benefit) got tired of the commute and is opening another Jersey Joe's in the Stone Pine Shopping Center (near the Post Office) very soon - this month hopefully. Anyone who has had his cheesesteaks knows; those that haven't will soon have the opportunity to find out - those darn things are addictive! Yeah, I'd sure like to see that new shop here on Patch's pages - almost as much as I'd like to be Don's first customer on opening day!
