Pacifica Kid Snags Art Honors

A Cabrillo Elementary fourth grader win the opportunity to see her art work featured on SamTrans ad cards.

A fourth grader from Cabrillo Elementary School walked away a winner at the Art Takes a Bus Ride event Wednesday afternoon at the SamTrans building.

Sara Ababseh was among the six winners whose artwork will be featured on ad cards inside SamTrans buses and on the outside of the SamTrans “Art Bus” - exposing their work to nearly 12,000 young people who ride SamTrans buses, more than 25 percent of the District’s total ridership. Her teacher is Tiffany Lin.

Ababseh's work depicted a SamTrans bus enroute, passing a pink house.

In addition to the honor of having her work on the Art Bus, Ababseh also won a SamTrans monthly pass, a certificate, a framed copy of the bus ad card that displays her art and an assortment of art supplies.

Other winners from the event were first-grader Olivia Pon from Belmont’s Central Elementary, third-grader Isaih Crump from Sandpiper Elementary in Redwood City, second grader Nikaella Mariano from Ponderosa Elementary in South San Francisco, and fifth-grader Sakina Bambot and sixth grader Meiling Lin from Tierra Linda Middle School in San Carlos.

Congratulations Sara! How wonderful that the educational community at Cabrillo embraces art, offers a great program and one of their students wins?! Kudos for believing in the power of art for children!
