Why Sunsets are Best Late Fall and in the Winter

In the last few weeks, evening skies in Pacifica light up with the spectacular hues of autumn and winter colors.

If you haven't noticed, sunsets in Pacifica have been spectacular lately with one day after another of fluffy and rolling wave clouds glowing in vivid shades of orange, pink and red.

Why are winter sunsets best? The clear Canadian air overhead in the winter filters out blues and allows bold red and orange rays, the longer ones, to shine through. More info here from weather.com and NOAA.

Then, there are the clouds this time of year, usually from humidity, but this week also from the fires in Big Sur. They give the sun's light some drama.
