Video: Meet Cecily Harris, Executive Director of Coastside State Parks Association

Find out what it takes to support the 15 parks and beaches along 36 miles of San Mateo County coastline from Gray Whale Cove State Beach in Montara to Año Nuevo State in Pescadero.

This month on Wavelength, Pacifica Community Television's award winning TV show, host Ian Butler interviews Cecily Harris, executive director of the Coastside State Parks Association (CSPA) after meeting up with her recently at the Pacifica Farmer's Market.

In the interview, Harris explains how the Coastside State Parks Association works to inspire public appreciation and stewardship of the natural resources and cultural heritage of the San Mateo County Coast in cooperation with state parks.

She also touches upon budget issues when it comes to managing the 15 parks and beaches along 36 miles of San Mateo County coastline from Gray Whale Cove State Beach in Montara to Half Moon Bay State Beach and Año Nuevo State Park in Pescadero. She explains the patchwork of state, county and federal park land that surrounds Pacifica and Half Moon Bay, acres of greenbelt from the beaches to the ridge line of the Santa Cruz Mountains starting from Montara Mountain south to Butano State Park.

Harris also talks about the recent volunteer efforts at Año Nuevo to build a new boardwalk and the Devil's Slide trail, how this is a San Mateo County project that will begin construction this fall and why it's required to open in March 2014.

Watch the video and learn more about the parks and beaches that the Coastside State Parks Association supports and how in partnership with California State Parks, CSPA raises funds to support vital education and interpretation programs and projects.
