Hundreds of people from the Bay Area meet in Pacifica on Saturday, Jan. 19, at Eureka Square in front of the City Arms gun store for a Second Amendment Freedom Celebration organized by KSFO Radio, San Francisco. In fact, KSFO Hot Talk radio organizers estimate that up to 750  to 1,000 people attended the event.

With the Obama administration finalizing gun legislation at the end of the month, the rally addressed the debate over gun control and asked people to "bring your pride, your patriotism and your copy of the 2nd amendment."

KSFO radio’s Brian Sussman, Melanie Morgan and Katie Green rallied with gun owners and Second Amendment supporters to push back against potential legislation controls on gun ownership.

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. It was adopted on Dec. 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights. The Supreme Court of the United States first ruled in 2008 that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess and carry firearms.

The rally opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and the crowd singing the national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” California State Assembly Republican Member Dan Logue, who represents the 3rd Assembly District, spoke about freedom, the people’s right to keep and bear arms, and how “Sacramento and Washington are determined to take away our liberties.”

On the other side of the sidewalk a group of 30 anti-gun rights activists rallied for peace. The interactions between the two groups was low-key.

Still, the hundreds who showed up to show their support of private gun ownership were very vocal about their need to have weapons and voiced their opinion against the President's plan for stricter controls on guns.

“It’s ridiculous so much time and effort is spent on gun control. Our mental health system needs revamping and not more gun control laws. We need to stop the nuts who are doing the shooting,” Morgan said in a video of the 2nd Amendment Celebration rally. Watch the video here.
