SamTrans Rolls Out Route Changes in Pacifica

New routes begin on Jan. 26 and include seven-days-a-week service from Pacifica to Half Moon Bay.

After extensive public outreach and input, SamTrans is making adjustments to its countywide network of bus routes to better serve communities and improve connections throughout the county. There will also be new 29-foot buses that are better for windy coastal roads, said SamTrans public information officer Christine Dunn.

The following changes go into effect Jan. 26, 2014:

Route 14: The bus will operate only during weekday peak hours in a clockwise direction from the Linda Mark Park & Ride. Saturday and Sunday service will be discontinued. Alternate service option: Route FLX Pacifica (see below).

Route 17: The route will be extended to serve Half Moon Bay to Pacifica seven days a week. Weekday service will run every 60 minutes and weekend service will run every 2 hours. Trip times will be adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Route 110: Earlier morning service will be added to replace some of the eliminated Route 118 trips. Trip times on the route will be adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Route 112: Trip times will be adjusted to improve on-time performance.

Route 118: Service will be cut back, and the bus will operate only during the peak hours. Alternate service options: Routes 110 and 112.

Route 294: Service between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay will be discontinued since Route 17 will be the alternate daily service to and from Pacifica. Now Route 294 will run between the San Mateo Medical Center and Half Moon Bay as well as select weekday trips to the College of San Mateo.

FLX Pacifica:

As part of a one-year pilot program, SamTrans is launching a weekday bus route in Pacifica that will be a mixture of fixed and flexible routing for customer convenience. The route – FLX Pacifica – will serve SamTrans bus stops for the fixed routing. For the flexible routing part of the service, the bus will pick up customers directly from their homes or other locations within the defined service area. Buses will only stop to serve customers where it’s safe to do so and won’t go in private driveways, public parking lots or shopping centers. SamTrans fares will apply ($2 for adults; $1.25 for youth & $1 for seniors/customers with disabilities/Medicare cardholders). SamTrans will use a 25-foot wheelchair lift-equipped bus with bike rack for the pilot project. By the end of December, the route schedule will be available online at www.samtrans.com/FLEX. Printed copies will be available in mid-January by calling 1-800-660-4287 (TTY 650-508-6448) or visiting the Pacifica City Hall or library.

Service area: The bus will travel clockwise from the Linda Mar Park & Ride along Highway 1 to Crespi Drive, Fassler Avenue, Terra Nova Boulevard, Oddstad Boulevard and back to Linda Mar Boulevard.

Service flexibility: The bus will operate on a fixed schedule serving SamTrans bus stops. However, customers will be able to arrange for direct service within one-half mile of the route by calling at least one day in advance.

Service hours: Buses will operate every 45 minutes weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:40 p.m.

To arrange a ride: Customers will call a designated number up to one day before they want to travel. Rides will be reserved based on availability. The reservation phone number will be available after Jan. 20.
