Patch's Guide to Pacifica Christmas Tree Lots

Where will you go to get your tree?

2010 is a big year for the Christmas tree: According to the National Christmas Tree Association, the first recorded modern Christmas tree in the world was set up in Latvia in 1510. When you're choosing your tree this year, you'll be celebrating the 500th birthday of the Christmas tree.

Pacifica is home to four Christmas tree lots, each one a mini forest full of healthy, fragrant fir trees. All of the tree lot owners said they do not officially haggle over tree prices, but want to make sure "everyone leaves with a tree."

Here's the rundown:

New to Pacifica this year, Watteyne carries Noble and Grand firs fresh from Portland, Ore., priced at $11 per foot. They sell stands and will cut the trunks to fit a base.

"We carry all of your Christmas tree needs," said Tom, the manager. In addition to full, fragrant fir trees, they have extras like mistletoe, pinecones and small trees - about 2 feet tall - for offices and apartments, plus bounce houses to keep the kids busy while your peruse.

Park Pacifica Stables

Park Pacifica Stables carries Noble, Douglas and Grand firs from Oregon, priced from $35-90, depending on size. They sell stands and will cut the trunks to fir a base. Small wreaths are $15 and large ones are $25. Park Pacifica Stables donates a portion of its proceeds to the Rob Schneider Music Foundation (the stables are owned by Rob's sister April Schneider and her husband Matt Farley).

Fresh from Oregon (they were still dusted with snow when they arrived last week), this second location of the Park Pacifica Stables also carries Noble, Douglas and Grand firs and will cut a trunk to fit a base. The trees range in price from $35-90 or more, depending on size. They sell stands ranging in price from $12-24 and wreaths from $12-25. This location offers some local delivery for $10, depending on delivery time and location.

Pringle's Christmas Tree Lot

This is Pringle's 32nd year selling Christmas trees in Pacifica and they've relocated to the Pedro Point shopping center from their longstanding location in the Rockaway Beach area. They have Noble, Doug and Grand firs from Oregon, priced at $30 and up. They carry stands as well as wreaths – even a few shaped like candy canes – and will cut the tree trunks to fit stands.
