Large Power Outage Affecting Montara, Moss Beach

The exact cause of the outage remains under investigation.

A large power outage is affecting PG&E customers in the area of Montara and Moss Beach, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said the outage started in that location at about 9:30 p.m. and initially affected 4,890 customers.

Guidi said crews are working to get power restored, and as of about 11 p.m. the number of affected customers was down to 1,780.

The outage began in the area of Second Avenue and Main Street in Montara.

Sheriff's officials said that the outage began because of a transformer fire. Guidi said it began with a downed wire. The exact cause remains under investigation, Guidi said.
