Is There a Proper Dog Walking Etiquette?
A Patch reader spoke out about an issue all homeowners have faced — dogs doing their business on your lawn. How do you think dog owners should handle this situation?
We’ve all seen it happen. A dog and their owner — walking on the sidewalk, enjoying the fresh air outside ... and then it happens. The dog gets in the hunched-back position, and out comes a little present on your freshly cut lawn.
According to a study done by the U.S.Department of Agriculture, the typical dog excretes three quarters of a pound of waste per day — or 274 pounds per year.
There are some dog owners that would leave that present for the homeowner to deal with, and then there are those that have a plastic bag with them and gladly clean the mess up.

A reader recently posted on a Patch Board that the dog owner cleaned up the dog’s mess, but this wasn’t good enough for the homeowner.
Patch readers, what’s your opinion on this issue? Is there a proper dog-walking etiquette? And if so, what is it?
