High Surf Advisory Through Wednesday

Waves could reach 12 feet; gale force winds are expected as well.

A high surf advisory is currently in effect through Wednesday morning along the Bay Area coast, according to the National Weather Service.

Swells are expected to increase this afternoon with seas of 9 to 12 feet, lowering slightly this evening and then building again becoming very steep Tuesday afternoon and evening. Breakers could reach up to 12 feet, according to the report and seas will initially be dominated by a 14 second northwest swell.

Recreational boaters should remain in port, advises the National Weather Service report, or take shelter until waves subside. Commercial vessels should prepare for rough seas.
