MCC Agenda for Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at GSD at 7:30 p.m.

Please find attached the agenda for the regular MCC meeting next Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Please note: Due to flu outbreak at Seton Coastside meeting is moved to:

Granada Sanitary District Meeting Room

504 Ave. Alhambra, 3rd Floor, El Granada

The primary reason for Supervisor Horsley and Building and Building Deputy Director Steve Monowitz attendance is to inform Midcoast residents on the ABAG request to designate the Midcoast a Priority Development Area “Rural Corridor” place type. If time permits, we hope to cover the rest of the items.

The Council will be discussing and may take action on the following Regular Agenda Items:

  •  “Rural Corridor” and PDA Presentation – Horsley/Monowitz (8:00) (45 minutes) Presentation on the County’s ABAG request to designate the Midcoast a Priority Development Area “Rural Corridor” place type. Discussion on the implications and impact on the community by this request and define the next steps. Also address the process surrounding the County’s action and its lack of community input before the fact.

Desired Outcome: Informational and agreement on the next steps and improving the process.

  • Hwy 1 Safety & Mobility Study Next Steps – Monowitz (8:45) (15 minutes) Follow up to the Hwy 1 Safety and Mobility Study presentation on 2/29 and community response. Define the process and road map to implementing an action plan.

Desired Outcome: Agreement on the roadmap for refining and implementing an action plan for Hwy 1 in the Midcoast and a commitment from the County on community participation in all the decision process.

  • Princeton Shoreline Erosion – Ketcham (9:15) (15 minutes)  Presentation on conditions along the Princeton shoreline and studies done to date, leading to the question of what should be done and who will take on lead agency responsibilities.

Desired Outcome: Informational and preliminary discussion with County Supervisor and staff.

  • Final Approval of MCC Letter to County on Hwy 1 Study - (9:00) (15 minutes) Council will decide on the final draft of the community’s comments to be sent to the County on the Hwy 1 Safety & Mobility Study Phase II.

Desired Outcome: Vote to send letter forward to the County

I can start with the comments on the Theravance drug, fluticasone fluroate - the active moiety inRead More this compound is the same, fluticasone (proprionate) that has been marketed by GSK for the same indication for approximately 25 years. Indeed, that patent is so old, and the drug has such a proven track record for safety and efficacy, that the patent has expired and there are generic versions available. There is also in implicit assumption by the author that the only reason that the FDA will approve medications in a short time span is because they are for 'life-or-limb' or unmet serious medical need. This is just not the case - regulators in many countries, including the FDA in the USA, may give accelerated approval to a product, where the safety and tolerability of a product is equivalent to a similar active agent which has already been approved. I suspect this is the case for fluticasone fluroate - but I am not privy to the details of the regulatory filing. I note that none of the companies mentioned here, nor the FDA, has provided input to this article. The journalism in this article smacks of someone trying to make a name for themselves quickly by scaring uneducated and/or anxious people. The science is just plain flawed.
