The City of Pacifica recently shut down an underground medical cannabis club on Palmetto Avenue.

The owners of the club, Wellness Solutions Group, appealed the revocation of their business license, but the City Council denied them on Monday night.

Many residents spoke of the need for the city to come up with an official stance on medical marijuana at the meeting.

What do you think? Should we allow medical cannabis clubs to set up shop in Pacifica? Take the poll.

I think that the prohibition of cannabis is working every bit as well as the prohibition of alcohol did back when. The use of the stuff increases and organized crime makes all the money.

Exactly Dan. When there is a legal way to obtain, most will choose to obey the law. Even though clubs charge a bit more they have put many a dealer out of business and that's a good thing!

Dan is right on. Another major consideration can be summed up in two words: sales tax.

Once again the elected leadership of Pacifica fail the inahbitants by focusing on the wrong thing. Then worse than that, they further dishonor us all by casting libelous accusations at the industrious business owner for being well studied and following the law. I suspect their retraction of the business license is grounds for breach of contract in light of the facts as they have been publicly presented.

To those who continue perpetuating the fallacy of the dangers of hemp/marijuana which your Elite masters applaud as they laugh all the way to the bank. I suggest you consider that perhaps you are just exactly what David Rockefeller said, "a bunch of useless eaters".

His family, by the way was one of Elite who engineered the system of disinformation and propaganda used to destroy the once thriving hemp industry in America and change the laws. This was done because hemp products, had they been allowed to prosper, directly threaten the monopoly of the petrochemical industry. Most anything that can be made from the oil molecule can be made better using hemp. Plus, the end result is non-toxic.

Why do people keep equating pot to alcohol? It is much closer to smoking cigarettes than drinking alcohol. I walked out of Linda Mar McDonald's the other day to the stench of marijuana (to me it stinks and when you smoke it you stink). I was with my 3 year old grand daughter and we both had to breathe in second hand smoke. Needless to say, I won't be going to that McDonald's again. When you smoke marijuana in public or at home, the baby, child, adult around is smoking it too. My grand daughter lives in an apartment with her parents, what happens when the tenant above smokes the crap? She has to breathe it in. What about the parent who come home from work and smoke it, is that child abuse? I personally will not tolerate having to breathe it in and really don't want to live where my right to clean air is not respected. Remember when cigarettes were advertised as good for your health? If not, get yourself educated, read some history.

Jen,
I understand your concerns, nobody wants their 3 year old child exposed to harmful smoke. When marijuana is eventually legalized it should be subjected to similar restrictions as cigarettes, to minimize second hand exposure. But let's keep things in perspective, studies show that exposure to cigarette smoke increases the risk of lung cancer 20 fold, whereas the largest study ever undertaken on marijuana and cancer shows no increase at all.

According to Donald Tashkin, the UCLA pulmonologist who led the study, which was funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, ""We hypothesized that there would be a positive association between marijuana use and lung cancer, and that the association would be more positive with heavier use," he said. "What we found instead was no association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect."

So, although it is best to limit exposure to any smoke (including campfires), it appears that marijuana smoke is relatively benign.
