Pacificans React to Tsunami Surges at Sharp Park Pier

Pacificans gather at Sharp Park Pier to witness the outcome of the Tsunami alert.

Pacificans were up early Friday morning to see what waves the would bring.

Pacifica Patch was at to get their reactions.

"When I first heard the news about the tsunami they also mentioned that there were schools that were open for people that wanted to get more inland, was one of them," said Linda Gilbrath, a Pacifica resident. "If it got bad I would go there."

"We got all of our pets ready and packed the car, then we came down here to the Pier to see how the waves were looking," said her daughter, Leilani Hanaike. "I'm part of 4-H and have a lamb. I was worried about him and made sure the gate was open just in case the tsunami was large enough to get to our house, so he could run away."

Linda and Leilani were not the only ones at the pier having a look to see what the outcome of the tsunami would be.

"I'm concerned," said Laurie Scott, Pacifica resident. "Pacifica has had tsunami alerts before but nothing like this. That's why I'm here by the Pier, to look and see what the wave action is like."

At about 8:10am, the water level began to rise and at what was supposed to be low tide levels were slightly higher than usual. Wave heights were nothing serious.

"I turned on the news and watched to see what was going on, sometimes the news on television can work you up and exaggerate," said Gloria Leon, Pacifica resident. "Since my home has  a view of the ocean, I looked out the window and felt reassured. No giant waves in sight."
