Rockaway Beach Stroll Benefits Local Safety Net
The Pacifica Resource Center, volunteers, local businesses and Pacifica residents joined together to raise awareness and money for those in need.
The sun was shining on Pacifica’s first annual Rockaway Beach Stroll, a benefit for the Pacifica Resource Center,
The center is dedicated to providing low-income Pacifica residents with basic needs such as groceries, financial assistance, tax preparation and more. Dozens of people attended the event on Oct. 3.
“We put this event on not only to raise money but raise awareness," said Anita Rees, executive director of the center. "The idea is to have a leisurely stroll to really enjoy the town of Pacifica--things that we have right here that I think a lot of times people forget.”
Event organizers began preparing for the stroll at the beginning of the year. With those months of preparation, the event turned out to be a huge success.
Tickets to the event sold for $30 per person and $50 per couple, and included a glass of wine per guest, hors d’oeuvres and a chance to win a prize. There was a balloon raffle: purchase a balloon for $5 and have the chance to win $100.
Thee event helped out local business, too.
A Grape in the Fog, Christmas By the Cove, Generations, Remax Star Properties, Ressurected, Rock‘N Fit, Rock‘n Rob’s, Sirens and Dollhouse Bonus Room opened up their doors to some additional foot traffic in support of this event and even donated food, drinks and gifts.
Locals also enjoyed live music by The Humpbacks and Eddie Raymond followed by a Tango dance performance by Joe & Diane Munoz.
The event concluded with a silent auction. Suzanne Lamar, the emcee and auctioneer of the event lead the auction that included tickets to see the San Francisco 49ers, a retreat in Tahoe, a night in San Francisco and a police ride-along. Some items sold for over $1,000.
